Data

Traffic_No_Institution.mp4
video/mp4 (11MB)
Creative Commons: Attribution 4.0

Projection of future events scenario, where an institution is used to assist in SA reasoning. In this version, no institution is active, so the vehicle arrives at the lights when they are red.

Traffic_With_Institution.mp4
video/mp4 (11MB)
Creative Commons: Attribution 4.0

Projection of future events scenario, where an institution is used to assist in SA reasoning. In this version, an institution is active, so the vehicle arrives at the lights when they are green.

FlashLights_No_Institution.mp4
video/mp4 (12MB)
Creative Commons: Attribution 4.0

Resolving unknown behaviours scenario, where one vehicle flashes its headlights at another as a wish to get past. In this version of the scenario, there is no institution active, so the vehicle does not understand the social context to change lanes.

FlashLights … Institution.mp4
video/mp4 (16MB)
Creative Commons: Attribution 4.0

Resolving unknown behaviours scenario, where one vehicle flashes its headlights at another as a wish to get past. In this version of the scenario, there is an institution active, and the vehicle ahead receives guidance that the flash of lights means move lane, and does so.

VSL_No_Institution.mp4
video/mp4 (28MB)
Creative Commons: Attribution 4.0

Variable speed limit scenario, where vehicles may have their speed reduced in order to ease congestion. In this variation, no reduction is set and so congestion wave forms.

VSL_GlobalSpeed.mp4
video/mp4 (29MB)
Creative Commons: Attribution 4.0

Variable speed limit scenario, where vehicles may have their speed reduced in order to ease congestion. In this variation, a global speed limit is enforced for all vehicles.

VSL_With_Institution.mp4
video/mp4 (30MB)
Creative Commons: Attribution 4.0

Variable speed limit scenario, where vehicles may have their speed reduced in order to ease congestion. In this variation, an institution issues obligations to slow down to a specific small number of vehicles.

Crash_No_Institution.mp4
video/mp4 (18MB)
Creative Commons: Attribution 4.0

Post-accident management scenario, where following a vehicle collision there is a need to coordinate an appropriate response. In this variation, no institution is present to perform this role.

Crash_With_Institution.mp4
video/mp4 (16MB)
Creative Commons: Attribution 4.0

Post-accident management scenario, where following a vehicle collision there is a need to coordinate an appropriate response. In this variation, multiple institutions interact to manage this situation, resolving traffic and legal aspects.

Temporal coverage:

From 1 October 2007 to 8 May 2015

Documentation

Data collection method:

The videos included in this collection have been derived using the 3D view components included in the BSF software framework, during a number of scenarios explained more fully in the related thesis: "Challenges in artificial socio-cognitive systems: A study based on intelligent vehicles" Additional views such as the graph views have been created from the rdfUtilities package. These scenarios can be re-run by using the included version of the BSF framework which is provided as zip file. From the command line, run "ant -p" to see available projects, which includes the traffic simulation, institutions, 3D view, and more.
