Blood samples were distributed between an EDTA-coated tube and an untreated serum tube (Sarstedt, Germany). The EDTA-coated tube was immediately centrifuged for 10 minutes (4000 g, 4°C), after which the supernatant was immediately removed and stored at -80°C. Serum tubes were left to stand for 30 minutes at room temperature before being centrifuged and stored as described above.
