File List: - Data o Data Dictionary * DataDictionary o Raw * Depressed_screening * Healthy_screening * Phase_1_2_3_3b_DC_Qs_1 * Phase_1_2_3_3b_DC_Qs_2 * Phase_1_2_3_3b_DC_Task * prolific_IDs o Passed 7 or more attention checks * task_event_levels_qs_reduced_attention o Passed all attention checks * task_event_level_qs - Code o Optimism_Analysis.RMD o Questionnaire_Task_Cleaning.R 2. Relationship between files, if important: The data for this study has been separated into three parts (1) the raw files produced by screening and test data (2) the cleaned data file that reflect the data analysis reported in our paper, and (3) a cleaned data file for participants that failed a single attention check, we did not analyse these participants data but have included the data for potential future research. The code for this study has been separated into two files (1) the code used to analyse the data for this study as reported in our manuscript, (2) the code used to clean raw data. To allow for use of this data using non-proprietary software we have provided .csv files. However, all raw data was imported into R using .xlsx files, and cleaned data was imported using.rdata files. It is therefore recommended to use the .xlsx files for the raw data and the R dataframe files for the cleaned data if also using the accompanying R scripts. 3. Additional related data collected that was not included in the current data package: Data that may have identified participants has been removed. 4. Are there multiple versions of the dataset? No METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION 1. Description of methods used for collection/generation of data: This study was pre-registered on Open Science Framework (https://osf.io/f2t9p), which details the study methodology and data analysis plans. Briefly, this study aimed to examined whether individuals experiencing depression differ in optimistic belief updating for positive and negative life events compared to healthy controls. 2. Methods for processing the data: All data was cleaned and analysed using R. 3. Instrument- or software-specific information needed to interpret the data: R version 4.0.5 4. Data specific Information Full details of the variables included in each dataset are available in the data dictionary files.
